A small review of Five Questions

Madison Walters isn't just a small business owner; she's also an author. By day, Walters owns Arkansas' first romance bookstore, Pages & Ink, located in Conway. The storefront is cute with hundreds of books, a candle bar, stationery, and bookish merch—a book lover's dream. The store opened in April 2026.


Walter's first novella, Five Questions, is a quick, immersive read that you can finish in one day. The novella is a coming-of-age story told through the lens of the eldest daughter in her late teens as she navigates a romantic relationship.


I found the story to be all-consuming, connecting with the characters right off the bat. Hazel, the main character, is also bookish, often losing herself in worlds nestled between pages. Chase Ledger, our story's bad boy, fits the stereotype teen girls often fall for in popular media, but there's a hidden depth most ignore that humanizes him. Olivia, Hazel's best friend, is always there for her no matter what. Hazel's family offers a different side of her than what she presents at school and in her personal life.


The story is structured in a way that keeps you turning the page. Personally, I wanted more of the book, but I like the aspect that its ending is open to interpretation.
